Looked at Fontane`s plate

"Iam not an expert eater", Theodor Fontane writes (1819-1898) in a letter from 1885, though he didn't go for half portion, he admits at other places.

"I have a sophisticated imagination of the holiness of the meal: immediatly after a sleeping human there is an eating human."

On Fontane`s menues there were potatoes on four from seven days:

peeled potatoes, fried potatoes, cut or as a whole.

mashed potatoes, green potatoes, sour potatoes.

Some of his favourite meals:

• potatoes with white cabbage, caraway and mutton ribs
• potatoes with Spanish onions and mutton ribs
• peeled potatoes with white turnip and roast pork or with "Entenklein" and fried duck lever
• potatoes with different sorts of beans and mutton
• potato soup
• fried potatoes with beef and caper sauce or "Pickle-Sauce"
• potatoes and carrots with beef with onion- and caraway sauce
