Ourselves in Europe
Summary of the project:
This project will explore various aspects of life for young people in three European countries. This will be looked at through the eyes of both disabled and non-disabled pupils.
Year 1:
Stage I will involve setting the school in the context of the country as a whole. This will include an examination of the country's geography, politics and traditions.
Stage II will narrow the study to the region and will involve an examination of the climate, agricultural and industrial development.
Stage III will examine the school itself, its organization, ethos, cultura and curriculum. At the end of each stage, the schools will exchange information and investigate a number of issues raised through a comparative study. We hope to publish the information on a web site.
Year 2:
It is proposed to examine a number of environmental issues including the environmental problems of each region, to examine the vegetation of the region, to include the endangered species and problems of pollution. Pupils will also examine local environmental issues of recycling and the part played by schools and local authorities to raise public awareness of these issues.
Year 3:
We will examine the opportunities for disabled people in education, leisure and employment. Students will compare how local authorities and organisations support various groups with special needs at all ages.
